What are your plans?
My plan is to climb higher in my position in health care and use the tools that I have learned to build a hospital in Awka to help patients of all social classes in Nigeria. Using this platform, I would like Awka to set the stage of new and innovative hospitals that I plan to bring throughout Nigeria.
How does it feel to be nominated? It feels wonderful to be nominated by one of the most prestigious magazines in the South Jersey and Philadelphia region; I am so honored.
What are you engaged in? In the past few months I have been learning how to make Jollof rice and Moi Moi, and have become an expert using my mother’s secret recipes. All my friends and co-workers love my Jollof rice. I even take orders in my spare time from people who are willing to pay me $15 dollars for the best Jollof rice in all of South Jersey!
To you, what does it mean to be a part of the African diaspora? It means to work and take part in the African cultural community. Being Nigerian, I am very proud of my Naija culture. You can see me going to church or special events wearing my traditional attire. If you hear someone blasting Naija Hip hop music, that probably is me. I am a huge fan of Highlife and Ogene music as well. I am also a major fan of Nollywood movies. Anytime I watch a Naija movie on Iroko TV, I feel like I am traveling to Naija. These movies capture life in Naija for the rich and poor. Oh, you cannot forget about the native doctor using juju. I do not believe these things but based on the numerous Naija movies that I watch, this is a part of our culture whether we accept or deny it.
I am truly blessed to be Nigerian and there is nothing else that I can trade in the world for my ethic cultural background.
