The 2025 Philadelphia Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Make the power of your vote count and your voice heard.
As the birthplace of the United States, Philadelphia represents justice, freedom, and democracy. But this storied history would be incomplete without mentioning the impact and contributions of generations of Black people in the city.
As a Black person in Philadelphia, you have more reasons to vote.
Here’s a primer for the primary focusing on a few good reasons to vote
Exercise Your Civic Right
Voting is one of your rights as a citizen, and you should seriously consider exercising this precious right by voting in the coming elections. It is even more imperative for Black people, who fought so bravely, with sacrifice, for their human rights in a long history of oppression, disenfranchisement, and voter suppression.
Largest Demographic In The City
Blacks represent the largest racial group in Philadelphia, comprising nearly 40 percent of the population, and this means most, if not, all policies will directly affect the African-American community. As such, everyone who falls under this ethnic group needs to ensure that the right people secure the relevant offices.

The responsibility to safeguard future decisions for the city of Philadelphia, and the Black community as a whole, falls to you. And the strongest way to make a meaningful impact is to cast your vote.
Voting In Accountability And Relatability
When you have the right people in power, you can always demand accountability from them. Also, whoever is going to wield the power of the office should be someone who understands you and the community. Someone who knows the struggle and is familiar with the challenges facing the ethnic group; leaders who will inevitably support policies that benefit your valued interests.
Securing The Future
Furthermore, voting in the 2025 Philadelphia Primary Election is a way of having a hand in the future for coming generations. This means that you can influence the shaping of our children’s future by voting while setting an example.
Prevent Others From Choosing For You
It is said that if you fail to make a decision, others will make it for you. The same thing applies to elections and exercising your civic rights. If you do not vote, you will have to live with the decisions of others.
You Have A Say As A Taxpayer
As a taxpayer, you have skin in the game. You have a say on how your taxes are spent, and voting is one of the ways to make your voice heard. Voting for the right people makes the political leaders accountable to the citizens, which includes you.
Being accountable goes as far as following the voice of the people on how their tax money is spent.
Your Vote Counts
This is a common mantra. Your vote counts because one person can make all the difference to determine any election. Everyone has an equal chance to decide who will represent them at the various levels of the government. So, don’t deny your hard-fought freedom to vote.
