Calming Home Organizing Hacks You Need to Help You Declutter

If you have lived in your house or apartment for a long time, there’s a good chance that you have accumulated quite a bit of “stuff.” With most people still working from home, many have found that their place has got a little more cluttered than usual. Conquering the clutter doesn’t have to be daunting, and can actually be a great form of self-care and relaxation. Here are five home organizing hacks to help you declutter your home and make you feel more on top of things.

Declutter Your Kitchen

Messes materialize fast in what is often the heart of any home. Make the most of your cabinet space, no matter how small the kitchen might be, by mounting a rack at the back of a cabinet or the pantry door. You can use a roll-out rack in a lower cupboard to expand the cabinet space, or expand the vertical storage space by using wire shelf risers. You can also utilize the wall space in your kitchen to hang bulky pots and pans using S-hooks on a pegboard or a suspended pot rack.

Declutter Your Living Room

The living room is one of the hardest rooms in your home to keep neat on a daily basis. Coffee tables are the focal point of most living rooms so make sure they remain clutter-free. Decide on permanent storage spaces for commonly used items such as remote controls, magazines, and books. Toys should be kept in the hangout area, but when it is time to clean up, everything should b put back neatly into its own space, such as a toy box, which will keep things tidier, even in a small space.

Declutter Your Bathroom

Strategically tidying your bathroom shelves, drawers, and under-the-sink storage can help you corral all of your items in a way that’s convenient for everyone. Start with taking out all the expired medications, makeup, and skincare products that are in your medicine cabinet, drawers or shelves. Put back the items you use the most at eye level. Roll your towels and use them as decor tucked into pretty baskets, or piled on a bench, since rolled-up towels take up less space.

Declutter Your Bedroom

Hopefully the pandemic hasn’t forced you to turn your bedroom into a make-shift office, and it can still be a sanctuary of relaxation. To help keep your bedroom space free from clutter, add an extra row of vertical storage to move homeless items up and out of the way. Remove anything on your nightstands that doesn’t belong there such as mugs, glasses, pens, paper, or mail. If you’re tight on closet space, under-the-bed storage works wonders. Store any out of season clothes or accessories in space-saving vacuum storage bags or foldable fabric storage

Declutter Your Office

Wherever you’re working—whether it’s a dedicated home office, a bedroom corner, or a dining room table, keep it free of clutter by getting rid of any unnecessary paper. Any important hard copies of documents should be in nesting boxes to ensure your office space doesn’t become dysfunctional. To help you find things when you need them, you need to clearly label everything. Make sure it’s easy to read and see from your workspace. Once you get everything organized, keep up with it by setting aside a day once a month to go through the items on your desk.
