Evidence of the sport being played can be found as far back as 1911, when two teams of British soldiers had a match against each other here. It soon became a beloved pastime, and there were numerous clubs in Dar es Salaam before the 1930s. Today, it remains popular among Tanzanians and is frequently enjoyed on the beach.
