Uganda Posho
Description
Posho, also known as ‘Ugali’ or ‘Posho’, is a staple food in Uganda made from maize flour and water. It is a significant part of the Ugandan diet, often served alongside various stews and vegetables, symbolizing sustenance and community.
Ingredients
- 2 cups maize flour (cornmeal)
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. If using salt, add it to the boiling water.
- Gradually add the maize flour to the boiling water while stirring continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps.
- Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pot, about 5-10 minutes.
- Once it reaches a thick, dough-like consistency, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm, shaped into balls or slices, alongside your choice of stew or vegetables.
