Description
Bell Lager is a popular Ugandan beer known for its crisp and refreshing taste. It holds cultural significance as a beverage enjoyed during social gatherings and celebrations, reflecting the communal spirit of Ugandan culture.
Ingredients
- Water – 100 liters
- Barley malt – 20 kg
- Maize – 10 kg
- Hops – 500 grams
- Yeast – 200 grams
- Sugar – 5 kg
Instructions
- Begin by mashing the barley malt and maize in hot water to create a mash. Allow it to sit for about 1 hour.
- After mashing, drain the liquid (wort) into a large kettle.
- Bring the wort to a boil and add hops. Boil for about 1 hour.
- After boiling, cool the wort quickly to around 20°C (68°F).
- Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel and add yeast.
- Seal the vessel and let it ferment for about 1-2 weeks at a controlled temperature.
- Once fermentation is complete, bottle the beer, adding a small amount of sugar to each bottle to carbonate.
- Allow the bottles to condition for another week before serving.
