All Eyes on Philly on The Fourth!

Pomp and patriotism is the prevailing theme, as America gets ready to blow out all 250 candles on its fancy big birthday cake. Ring in the milestone this hot July with some cool (free or low-cost) entertainment featuring parades, fireworks, freedom celebrations, block parties, exhibits, star-studded concerts, games, giveaways, and good old family fun. For outdoor events, hydrate, apply sunblock, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and stay chill to beat the temps, which are expected to rise as high as the fireworks. (Note: Some events will have cooling stations; plus, check to make sure there are no last-minute event changes in times, locations, or cancellations). Let’s go Fourth and celebrate!

Map Out American History

There is no doubt about it: All eyes will be on Philadelphia, as it rolls out the red, white, and blue carpet on July 4th on America’s 250th birthday. To mark the momentous occasion, check out a new National Historic Landmarks map created by the Global Philadelphia Association. The map promotes Philadelphia’s historical and cultural places. With 67 National Historic Landmarks to explore, the map goes beyond the usual landmarks. Take a deep dive into the destinations, moments, movements, and stories that fueled the Great Experiment of American democracy. The map is organized geographically, by neighborhood, and makes discovering and navigating the terrain of historical sites much easier.
