Creative Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia’s arts and culture office, issued a public call for folks to come up with a quote for its newly commissioned statue of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, scheduled to be installed outside City Hall in Center City in the fall. Philadelphians were invited to respond to the question: What does it mean to walk in Harriet Tubman’s footsteps today?
Six quotes were recently chosen from 160 public entries. Now, the city needs your valued opinion: Vote for your favorite quote, which will be permanently inscribed on the base of artist Alvin Pettit’s statue entitled A Higher Power: The Call of a Freedom Fighter. The author of the winning quote will be credited on the sculpture for the whole world to see. And you can quote us on that!
