    Description

Mint tea is a traditional beverage in Mauritania, often referred to as ‘Moroccan tea’ due to its popularity across the Maghreb region. It is a symbol of hospitality and social gatherings, typically served in a ceremonial manner with three distinct pours, each representing a different flavor and strength.

    Ingredients

    • 1 liter of water
    • 3 tablespoons of green tea (preferably Chinese gunpowder tea)
    • 1 bunch of fresh mint leaves
    • 200 grams of sugar (adjust to taste)

    Instructions

    1. Boil the water in a kettle.
    2. In a teapot, add the green tea and pour a small amount of boiling water over it, swirling to rinse the leaves. Discard this water.
    3. Add the remaining boiling water to the teapot along with the sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
    4. Add the fresh mint leaves to the teapot.
    5. Allow the tea to steep for about 5 minutes.
    6. To serve, pour the tea from a height into a glass to aerate it, filling the glass about one-third full.
    7. Pour the tea back into the teapot and repeat this process two more times to mix the flavors.
    8. Serve the tea hot, garnished with additional mint leaves if desired.
