    Description

Posho, also known as ‘Ugali’ or ‘Posho’, is a staple food in Uganda made from maize flour and water. It is a significant part of the Ugandan diet, often served alongside various stews and vegetables, symbolizing sustenance and community.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups maize flour (cornmeal)
    • 4 cups water
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

    Instructions

    1. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. If using salt, add it to the boiling water.
    2. Gradually add the maize flour to the boiling water while stirring continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps.
    3. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pot, about 5-10 minutes.
    4. Once it reaches a thick, dough-like consistency, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it cook for an additional 5 minutes.
    5. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
    6. Serve warm, shaped into balls or slices, alongside your choice of stew or vegetables.
