E1 Championship
LAGOS, Nigeria – Making history on October 4-5, 2025, Lagos, Africa’s largest city, is poised to host the UIM E1 World Championship. This landmark, the world’s premier electric boat racing series, also known as the E1 Series and backed by global sports icons such as Didier Drogba, aims to showcase cutting-edge electric marine technology while promoting environmental awareness.
“We see this as a unique opportunity to tell the Lagos story in a sustainable way,” said Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State. “We are fully prepared and transaction-ready for the tournament.”
Organizers project €20 million into Lagos state’s tourism, hospitality, and media sectors. The E1 Series is expected to attract international visitors, boost local businesses, and showcase Lagos as a center of excellence and a global destination for commerce and tourism.
The E1 Championship aims to leave a legacy by fostering eco-friendly innovation and collaboration with Nigerian universities and startups to develop sustainable solutions through technology and innovation. Rodi Basso, Chief Executive Officer of E1, noted that bringing the E1 series to Africa marks a significant milestone, recognizing Lagos as a city “brimming with potential, a place where innovation thrives.”
Didier Drogba, former professional footballer and co-owner of Team Drogba, expressed his pride in bringing the event to Africa, saying, “Africa has the best athletes in the world, and I believe Lagos is ready to compete in this sport.”
Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Lagos State, also underscored the event’s significance, highlighting Lagos State’s global prominence and commitment to pioneering sustainability initiatives.
