The volunteer-based nonprofit assists individuals and families in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and New York with a myriad of important financial programs including securing tax-prep services, tax credits, benefits, utility discount programs and connecting to community valuable services all for free.  CWF builds and champions financial well-being and economic mobility by leading programs and advocating for policies, initiatives and support systems that ensure equitable opportunities and financial stability. It puts thousands of dollars into the pockets of working individuals and families through Child Tax Credits, Earned Income Tax Credits and Tax refunds annually  

This is a one-stop community assistance initiative: Get help with a variety of critical Employment resources like job searches, job searching skills for all citizens, including youth and ex-offenders employment services. Find resources in healthcare, financial, shelter and housing, food, education, seniors and transportation. “Find My Ride Education” program helps Pennsylvanians explore transportation options and assistance to make travel more accessible and affordable. Philadelphia Works (PhilaWorks) is a non-profit that invests in solutions and services to grow Philadelphia’s economy. It connects employers to workforce talent and career-seekers to jobs. It partners with government, public, and private organizations to implement innovative solutions and pilot programs that strengthen Philadelphia’s economy and Southeastern Pennsylvanian. Get resources for the -the-job training and customized training. Join the apprenticeships programs through ApprenticeshipPHL. Get help through the Layoff Aversion Program for re-employment of workers and employers impacted by job layoffs, plant closings and natural disasters. 

Philadelphia Corporation for Aging serves senior citizens and is one of the largest nonprofits in the Philadelphia area, with more than 400 employees. It lists current job openings, from social services to administrative roles, on its website.

Federal Employee Transition Workshops at the Free Library

Federal workers hit by DOGE cuts can now tap the Free Library of Philadelphia for help. 

The free workshops include networking and career tips, take place at four different locations, and are open to those who have already been laid off, along with those facing potential job loss, said Sandra Miller, the workplace librarian for the Free Library. Get resume help, LinkedIn navigation resources, and photographers will be on site to take headshots at two locations – Parkway Central and Coleman. Additionally, offered is information and resources about a program called “Civic Match,” a website that allows former or outgoing federal workers to either apply for specific state or local government jobs , or upload their information and geographic/job preferences to be matched with current openings. The Fair Chance Hiring Initiative (FCHI) helps local businesses hire and keep Philadelphians who have been impacted by the justice system, a re-entry program that for those returning from incarceration. Eligible employers can receive financial support, including wage reimbursements and employment retention grants. The program also helps employers connect with job seekers impacted by the system. The FCHI is a program of the City of Philadelphia, the Department of Commerce.
