    The Bahamas Kalik Beer

    Description

Kalik Beer is a popular Bahamian lager known for its refreshing taste and light body, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Brewed by the Commonwealth Brewery, it embodies the spirit of Bahamian culture and is often enjoyed during social gatherings and celebrations.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups of malted barley
    • 1 cup of corn
    • 1/2 cup of hops
    • 1 packet of brewer’s yeast
    • 4 cups of water
    • 1/2 cup of sugar
    • 1 tablespoon of corn syrup

    Instructions

    1. Begin by mashing the malted barley and corn in a large pot with 4 cups of water over medium heat. Stir continuously for about 30 minutes until the mixture thickens.
    2. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before straining the liquid into a fermentation vessel, discarding the solids.
    3. Add the hops to the strained liquid and bring it to a boil for 15 minutes.
    4. Remove from heat again and let it cool to room temperature.
    5. Once cooled, add the sugar and corn syrup, stirring until dissolved.
    6. Sprinkle the brewer’s yeast over the mixture and cover the vessel with a clean cloth. Allow it to ferment in a dark, warm place for about 5-7 days.
    7. After fermentation, bottle the beer, leaving some space at the top of each bottle. Seal tightly and let it carbonate for another week in a cool place.
    8. Chill the bottles before serving and enjoy your homemade Kalik Beer responsibly.
