    Description

Samosas are a popular snack in Tanzania, often filled with spiced potatoes, peas, or meat. They are a beloved street food and are commonly enjoyed during social gatherings and celebrations, symbolizing hospitality and community.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup water (as needed)
    • 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
    • 1/2 cup green peas, cooked
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
    • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil for deep frying

    Instructions

    1. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and vegetable oil until crumbly. Gradually add water to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
    2. In a pan, heat a tablespoon of oil and sauté the onions until golden. Add cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Stir in the mashed potatoes and peas, mixing well. Cook for a few minutes and let the filling cool.
    3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into thin circles. Cut each circle in half to form semi-circles.
    4. Take one semi-circle, fold it into a cone shape, and seal the edge with a little water. Fill with the potato mixture and seal the top edge, ensuring no filling escapes.
    5. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the samosas until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
