- Twist each strip into a spiral shape and pinch the ends to secure.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat and fry the twisted dough until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and vanilla extract to make the syrup, boiling until the sugar dissolves.
- Once the koeksisters are fried, dip them in the syrup while still hot, allowing them to soak for a few seconds.
- Remove and let cool on a wire rack.
