- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces

- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

- Pour in the chicken broth or water and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork, sprinkle with garam masala, and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
