Description
Samosas are a popular snack in Djibouti, known for their crispy exterior and savory filling. These triangular pastries are often filled with spiced meat or vegetables and are a staple during gatherings and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water (as needed)
- 1 cup minced meat (beef or lamb) or mixed vegetables
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the vegetable oil and rub it into the flour. Gradually add water until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a pan, heat oil and sauté the onions and garlic until golden. Add the minced meat or vegetables, spices, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned or vegetables are tender. Allow the filling to cool.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into a thin circle. Cut the circle in half to form two semi-circles.
- Take one semi-circle, form a cone by folding it, and seal the edge with water. Fill the cone with the filling and seal the open edge.
- Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the samosas in batches until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels before serving.
