Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500 grams lamb or beef, cut into cubes

- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the cubed meat and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir well to combine and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the meat is tender.
- After the meat is cooked, add the soaked rice to the pot, stirring gently to combine.
- Cover the pot and cook on low heat for another 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the liquid.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
