Description
Sauce Oseille is a traditional dish made from sorrel leaves, known locally as ‘oseille’. Ingredients
- 500g fresh sorrel leaves
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tablespoons groundnut oil (peanut oil)
- 1 teaspoon ground chili pepper (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Rinse the sorrel leaves thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
- In a pot, heat the groundnut oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook until they soften, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the sorrel leaves and cook until they wilt, about 3-4 minutes.
- If using, add ground chili pepper and salt to taste.
- Add a little water if the sauce is too thick and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Adjust seasoning as needed and serve hot.
