Brind Center for African & Diasporic Arts

The Philadelphia Museum of Art opens its permanent Brind Center for African & Diasporic Art in Fall 2026. This is not a temporary exhibition. It is a structural commitment: a dedicated gallery representing the artistic traditions of Africa and the African diaspora, installed permanently in one of the most prestigious exhibition spaces in North America. This building was designed by Julian Abele, a Philadelphia native and trailblazing Black architect, the first Black graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture in 1902.
