    South Africa Braai

    Description

Braai is a traditional South African barbecue that brings people together for social gatherings. It is not just about the food, but also about the culture of camaraderie and celebration that surrounds it.

    Ingredients

    • 1 kg beef steak (preferably sirloin or rib-eye)
    • 1 kg boerewors (traditional South African sausage)
    • 500 g chicken pieces (thighs and drumsticks)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons braai spice mix (paprika, coriander, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper)
    • 1 loaf of traditional South African bread (like potbrood)
    • 2 cups mixed salad greens
    • 1 cup tomato and onion relish
    • 1 lemon, cut into wedges

    Instructions

    1. Prepare the braai fire by using charcoal or wood, allowing it to burn down until you have glowing coals.
    2. While the fire is heating, marinate the beef steak and chicken pieces with olive oil and braai spice mix.
    3. Once the coals are ready, place the beef steak on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time based on thickness.
    4. Add the chicken pieces and boerewors to the grill, cooking the chicken for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, and the boerewors until browned and cooked through.
    5. While the meat is cooking, prepare the potbrood by wrapping it in foil and placing it on the edge of the grill to warm through.
    6. Serve the grilled meats with the bread, salad greens, tomato and onion relish, and lemon wedges on the side.
