Ingredients
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 250g sugar
- 15g baking powder
- 1g salt
- 250g butter, melted
- 250ml buttermilk

- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, and eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. If using, fold in the raisins or nuts.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before cutting into squares or rectangles.
- Place the pieces on a baking tray and return to the oven, reducing the temperature to 100°C (210°F).
- Bake for an additional 1-2 hours until completely dry and crisp.
- Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
