Imagine packing your bags, hopping in your car, and embarking on a solo adventure for 68 days that spans continents and stretches over 10,000 kilometers (6,200 miles). That’s exactly what Pelumi Nubi, a fearless explorer and travel content creator, did when she set out to become the first Black woman to drive solo from London to Lagos, Nigeria. Talk about audacity!
Fuelled by a thirst for adventure and a desire to explore her heritage, Nubi embarked on this epic journey in January 2024. Her trusty steed? A purple Peugeot 107, lovingly nicknamed “Lumi”. Her route? A captivating odyssey through 17 countries, including France, Spain, Morocco, Senegal, Mali, and Ghana.
The journey wasn’t all smooth sailing. Nubi encountered the inevitable challenges that come with traversing vast distances alone. There were moments of loneliness, logistical hurdles, and of course, the unexpected. Like the time she got into a car accident in Ivory Coast. But Nubi, a woman of resilience, refused to let a setback derail her dream. With determination and some quick repairs, she got Lumi back on the road, proving that sometimes the greatest adventures are forged in the face of adversity.

Finally, after 68 incredible days on the road, Nubi arrived in Lagos, greeted by a hero’s welcome. The city erupted in celebration, with fans, friends, and family cheering for the woman who dared to dream big and drive her way into history.
Pelumi Nubi’s incredible feat is more than just a solo road trip. It’s a testament to the human spirit’s ability to overcome challenges and chase dreams. It’s a powerful message of self-reliance and a celebration of African resilience.
