Hakim’s Bookstore

One of the oldest Black-owned bookstores in the country — a cultural anchor on the 52nd Street corridor.

Hakim’s is not a bookstore. It’s a library that sells books, a community center that happens to have a register, and one of the last standing institutions of the 52nd Street corridor’s golden era. Hakim Femi Hasan has been there for decades. The selection is curated with intention: Black history, African literature, pan-African politics, Philadelphia history, children’s books for Black children.
